Salzgitter Flachstahl GmbH Germany (SZFG) is the largest steel subsidiary in the Salzgitter Group. In 2016, more than 5,200 employees produced about 4.5 million tons of steel and generated a turnover of Euro 2.2 billion. The most important customers are flat-rolled products are cold rollers, vehicle manufacturers and their suppliers, manufacturers of both standard and large-diameter tubes, steel trading and the building industry. In an integrated iron-and-steel works, SZFG produces hot-rolled strip, hot rolled sheets, cold-rolled sheet and surface-finished products ranging in thickness from 0.4 to 25 mm and up to a maximum width of 2,000 mm. The production program includes drawn, deep-drawn and special deep-drawn steels, structural and fine-grained steels, as well as high-strength steels.

Because every single plant is equipped with modern automation and measurement systems, there is huge amount of data to be used in the project. One of the use cases analysed and implemented in NewTech4Steel is originated by SZFG and will be prototypically evaluated at the hot rolling area. Staff from automation, measurement and quality departments are supporting the project's work.
